Common questions

Every Vault charges a staking fee on the rewards earned by its users. The market rate for the fee can be anywhere from 5 to 15% of the network rewards. This works out to ~0.15%-0.45% of the total assets staked in the Vault per year. Vault users depositing into Boost produce 6-14x more fees for Vault owners.

For example, a user deposit of 1,000 ETH is expected to produce 1.5-4.5 ETH in fees when simply staked, and 6-14x times that when staked and Boosted.

The cost of operating a Vault depends on the node infrastructure used and will affect the bottom line of running a Vault.

To deploy a Vault, open the Vault Creation Wizard by connecting your wallet to the StakeWise dApp, navigating to the Operate page, and pressing the Create Vault button.

Set the desired Vault parameters when prompted, and review final choices before pressing Create Vault in the Wizard. You must then confirm the Vault creation transaction with your wallet.

Your Vault will be created as soon as the transaction is included by the network.

You can find the list of all the Vaults you created on the Operate page in the StakeWise dApp.

Operating a Vault requires three steps: deploying a Vault, connecting it to node infrastructure, and choosing an interface.

Since StakeWise provides the Vault contract and an interface for the Vault out of the box, the bare minimum to operate a StakeWise Vault is having node infrastructure, which can be own or delegated.

In more sophisticated use cases, Vault owners may elect to have their own Vault interface to maximize distribution, and work with multiple node operators within the same

Vault to increase infrastructure redunancy.

Vaults also support usage of distributed validators, e.g. Obol and SSV.

StakeWise does not charge for deployment and usage of Vaults and auxiliary services like subgraph, operator, API, and SDK.

The Vault fee set by the Vault admin is collected only by the Vault fee recipient, and is automatically deducted from the rewards of stakers in the Vault. Admin can also set distribution parameters for the fee to flow to multiple stakeholders at once (e.g. for joint ventures between the Vault distributor and its node operator).

StakeWise DAO charges a 5% fee on the rewards earned by osETH and osGNO holders.

All Vaults smart contract code and updates to it undergo extensive security audits, with over $1M spent on security to date. StakeWise also has a $200,000 bounty program on Immunefi that covers both smart contract exploits and front-end vulnerabilities.

In addition to audits, StakeWise’s architecture has been designed with security in mind.

Every Vault is an isolated smart contract owned solely by the Vault admin wallet (i.e. Vault creator or their delegate).

All changes to the Vault smart contract code must be initiated by the StakeWise DAO in form of new Vault versions. Then, every existing Vault has the sole discretion over the decision to upgrade its code to the new code versions proposed by StakeWise. This guarantees security from external interference with the Vault code, including by the StakeWise DAO.
